India was considered the ‘Jewel of the British Crown’ until it gained its independence in 1947. India is currently the 2nd most populous country in the world and prides itself on being the largest democracy on Earth. Although the majority religion is Hindu, many varied religions and cultures exist throughout India. India’s rich history is complemented by its exotic mix of Ancient Hindu customs and rituals blended with the modernity of the 21st century. Throughout India you can find vibrant cities, exotic palaces and temples, tropical forests, dazzling sandy beaches, and vast desert. For a change of pace, visit the Himalayan region. The vast Himalayan Mountains are strikingly beautiful, a perfect location for the adventurous traveler.

Delhi is a remarkable city, considered one of the oldest continuously inhabited cities in the world. A portion of the city has been designated ‘New Delhi', the capital of India. New Delhi’s architecture displays its former British colonial roots. There are broad tree-lined boulevards and many elaborate governmental buildings and landmarks. However ‘Old Delhi’ is a labyrinth of narrow winding streets, bazaars, and temples. Take a half day walking tour through the old city. Visit Gandhi’s memorial, the Red Fort, Humayun’s Tomb, Lodhi Garden, Tibet House Museum, the National Museum, and many others. If you wish to shop, visit Connaught Place, a unique combination of upmarket European shopping mall and Indian bazaar.

Bangalore, officially known as Bengaluru, is sometimes called the Garden City. Bangalore is not typically considered a tourist city, although it is considered the freshest innovative city in India. Bangalore is home to India’s burgeoning I.T. industry. Take a city tour run by the local government tourist office. Visit the Tipu Sultans Palace, Bangalore Palace, the Iskcon Temple, Gavi Gangadeshwara Cave Temple, and many others. Don't forget to experience Bangalore's pub scene.

Mumbai, formerly Bombay, is the financial capital of India and one of the largest cities in the world. India’s most cosmopolitan city it has a brisk daily pace. Mumbai is also home to India’s film/ television industry, Bollywood. When in Mumbai visit the Elephanta Caves, the Kanheri Caves, the Prince of Wales museum, the National Gallery of Modern Art, or take a Harbour cruise. There are many festivals throughout the year including the Elephanta Festival, Kala Ghoda, the Banganga Festival, and many others.

Visit Udaipur, dubbed the ‘Venice of the East’, due to the many beautiful lakes. Visit the beaches of Goa, a former Portugese colony. Visit Jaisalmer, the ‘Golden City', for a camel safari during the annual Desert Festival. Visit Orissa state which is famous for its many temples.
